At Gomes Park, each team got an envelope with 4 pages, each with 6 $50 bills printed on them. (One sided and slightly less than 75% of real size in compliace with counterfeit laws.)

To solve it, teams had to reorder the bills. This was done by noticing that the last 3 digits of one bill's serial number matched the first 3 digits of another one. (Also, the first bill began with A1A and the last one ended in Z9Z) The bills were put in order by chaining the serial numbers - like linked lists - where one serial number ended with the same 3 digits at the beginning of the next bill.

To help teams know they were on the right track, when in the right order, the 4th digit of each serial number lined up to spell "NowThisIsInTheRightOrder".

Teams then had to look at the 3-character code underneath the serial number on each bill. They had to use one of these letters from each bill in order to spell out their destination. To determine which letter to use, they had to notice that in each triplet, one letter was also in the triplet on the previous bill, one letter is in the triplet on the next bill, and one is in neither. They had to use the letter that was not duplicated in either the previous or next bill - again, like a linked list.

For each bill, after being put into the right order the serial number and

code were as follows:

Serial Number | Code | |
---|---|---|

A 1 A N 5 8 6 3 M 1 T | M T C | |

M 1 T O 5 8 6 3 F 9 P | M R I | |

F 9 P W 5 8 6 3 T 5 E | Y I N | |

T 5 E T 5 8 6 3 Q 1 R | 2 E N | |

Q 1 R H 5 8 6 3 O 9 V | 6 T E | |

O 9 V I 5 8 6 3 U 3 Z | 1 1 T | |

U 3 Z S 5 8 6 3 M 7 D | 1 K 1 | |

M 7 D I 5 8 6 3 Q 7 S | G K E | |

Q 7 S S 5 8 6 3 G 7 A | O R E | |

G 7 A I 5 8 6 3 V 2 U | E E O | |

V 2 U N 5 8 6 3 K 6 K | E E K | |

K 6 K T 5 8 6 3 T 3 T | N C K | |

T 3 T H 5 8 6 3 B 7 H | R C 2 | |

B 7 H E 5 8 6 3 E 6 O | O 2 1 | |

E 6 O R 5 8 6 3 Y 2 F | 1 C 6 | |

Y 2 F I 5 8 6 3 D 6 E | K 6 P | |

D 6 E G 5 8 6 3 Q 8 L | G P M | |

Q 8 L H 5 8 6 3 W 8 M | I C G | |

W 8 M T 5 8 6 3 T 8 J | C L R | |

T 8 J O 5 8 6 3 R 5 K | R P G | |

R 5 K R 5 8 6 3 X 1 H | I G M | |

X 1 H D 5 8 6 3 R 9 U | 1 T M | |

R 9 U E 5 8 6 3 T 2 A | G A 1 | |

T 2 A R 5 8 6 3 Z 9 Z | G S C |

For MTC you have to use the "GSC" from the last bill (because the whole

sequence wraps), to cancel out the "C". Since the second bill has an "M",

you also cancel out the "M", leaving you with "T".

For MRI the "M" was cancelled out by the first one and the I gets

cancelled out because it is in the third bill. So you get "R".

For YIN the "I" was cancelled out by the "I" in MRI, and the "N" is

cencelled out by the "N" in 2EN, leaving us with "Y".

For 2EN, the "N" gets cancelled out by the previous one and the "E" gets

cancelled out by the next bill, giving you 2.
